David Seven - Iro
ARTIST David Seven - also known as D/VISION7 - is a Netherlands-based conceptual artist and award-winning architect whose practice combines computational systems with a sensitivity to traditional artistic techniques.
His work frequently examines human emotions, perception, and the relationship between order and unpredictability. He describes his creative process as a dialogue with an autonomous generative system, in which randomization and artistic curation work together.
Although his works are digitally produced, Seven is also interested in their physical presentation, particularly large-scale prints that invite close observation
WORK The title Iro means colour in Japanese. For Seven, colour is more than a visual property: it is a language capable of evoking memories, emotions, and associations with places.
The project begins with an observation about human perception. When we look at a forest, we encounter an extraordinary amount of visual information—leaves, branches, light, shadows, and countless shades of colour. Yet our minds transform that complexity into an immediate impression or feeling.
With Iro, Seven attempts the reverse: to evoke the richness of nature and memory through a relatively simple abstract image.
COLLECTION With his exploration of men and machine producing output with a sharp feeling for (patterns in) nature, the work of David is a great addition to the Copernicus Collection.
