ARTIST Oscar Santillán is a visual artist whose practice departs from a transdisciplinary approach — connecting diverse scientific fields, cosmologies and non-human perspectives — in order to participate within the wondrous complexity and conflicts of our planet.

WORK In Treelemma Santillán brought together various technologies including blockchain, A.I. and various programming languages. Each time a forest fire rages somewhere on earth, the event is registered by satellites, which then send their data to an A.I.-system that writes a poem for the dying forest. Animations of these poems are displayed on screens in the exhibition in real time. Every new poem that emerges means a new forest fire has started.

COLLECTION In building new value systems for the digital age, the challenge is to intelligently combine all technologies that are at mankinds disposal. Treelemma is a great example of this since it combines the needs from the physical world to possibilities the digital world offers. Eloquently connecting differently value systems Treelemma shows us the way to regenerative ecosystems.
